Born in April 1922, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe was a Zambian politician, anti-colonialist and author.
After independence in 1964 he served as the country's second vice-president, from 1967 to 1970. He wrote on Zambian history and politics, and is credited with proposing the name Zambia.
